The disadvantages of the free date

There are many articles about how to have a great time on a budget.  In fact, there are many situations where a free online date can be a fun, exciting, and creative experience.  Some of my best friends have found some of their most meaningful relationships from going on a free date.  Still there are some situations that a free date is not appropriate for.  There are also some disadvantages to going on a free date and that is what this article will discuss.   

The first situation in which a free online date is not appropriate is if the only dates you have been on for free. If you have never spent any money, or your partner has never spent any money, you should probably try going on a date that costs a little bit of money.  If you only go on free dates you will never know what a more traditional date feels like.  If you are in this situation it is time to try out a nice restaurant.  Possibly it is even time to try a nice weekend away.  Even if you only spend a little bit of money it will let your date know you care about them.  If you only go on free dates the person you are seeing may worry that you are not in it for the right reasons, or that they are not important enough for you to spend money on them.

A disadvantage of going on a free online date is that it usually excludes eating.  Eating on a date is a great thing to do because it let's you get to know one another in a comfortable environment.  Also, most dates occur either around noon or in the evening at the normal time when people eat.  If you limit yourself to not spending any money it may prevent the two of you from sharing a nice dining experience together.  If you do not have a lot of cash find a small cafe or a good restaurant that will not cost you a fortune.  If you are willing to take the time to look you will find them!

Another situation in which a free date is not to be preferred is if there is something your date really wants to do.  For instance, if your online date has been dying to see the new play in town, and it costs a little bit of money you should probably spring for it.  If a person really wants to try something you would be hurting their feelings by suggesting that they go on a free date instead of what they really want to do.

Although there are a lot of advantages to a free date make sure to use caution, and be careful to not always rely on the free date as a standby.  Remember, the most important thing in a relationship is to let the person you are seeing know that you care about them.  There are many ways that you can do that.  And free dating may not always be the best option.
