And the second, is to see if you can get them to change.

This is normal, and every person will probably experience it at least once in their life. Dating should be fun and exciting. If it isn't, then there is something wrong. Working out a problem is usually easier than it may seem at first. The best thing is to be honest with the other person, otherwise you will have to tolerate someone you don't like throughout the entire relationship.
